GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria
  • A candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program.
  • OR who has already completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts / Humanities.
  • Candidates who possess certification from Professional Societies must ensure those examinations are approved by MoE / AICTE / UGC / UPSC as equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech. / B.Arch., etc.
  • Students from B.Sc. / B.A. / B.Com. degrees desirous of master's programs in IITs should look into the JAM 2026 Examination organized by IIT Delhi.
GATE 2026 Scheme of Examination
  • Types of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) AND/OR Numerical Answer Type (NAT).
  • Negative Marking Details:
    • There will be negative marking for wrong answers strictly in MCQs.
    • 1-Mark MCQ: 1/3 mark deducted for a wrong answer.
    • 2-Mark MCQ: 2/3 mark deducted for a wrong answer.
    • No negative marking for wrong answer(s) to MSQ and NAT questions.
GATE 2026 Required Documents To be Uploaded
  • High-quality image of the candidate’s photograph.
  • High-quality image of the candidate’s signature.
  • Scanned copy of Category (SC/ ST) certificate in PDF format (if applicable).
  • Scanned copy of PwD / Dyslexia Certificate in PDF format (if applicable).
  • Scanned copy of valid photo ID document: Aadhar UID (preferable) / Passport / PAN Card / Voter ID / Driving License.
  • Ensure that the uploaded documents are readable and clear to avoid application rejection.
